Modern keys carry a transponder chip and often a remote or keyless-entry function. A new or spare key has to be cut where needed and programmed to the car before it will start the engine or open the doors.

Duplication adds a spare to a working key; programming pairs new keys when keys are lost or damaged.

What it involves

  1. 01Identifying the key type and the car’s immobiliser system
  2. 02Cutting the blade, where the key has one
  3. 03Programming the transponder, remote and keyless functions to the car
  4. 04Testing start, lock and unlock with every key

When people ask for it

  • You need a spare key
  • A key is lost or damaged, or its remote has stopped working
  • A smart (keyless) key isn’t recognised

Describe the symptoms or the goal, with the make and model. That’s enough to start.
